Redefining Beautiful by Jenna Lucado

As unique individuals, we have our own habits, our own style, our own outlook, things that make us who we are. How we choose to see them, is well, up to us.

We often look at ourselves with judgmental eyes, and see only what we believe other people are thinking about us. We are constantly giving in to our insecurities and believing who we are is not pretty enough, smart enough, normal enough, fill in the blank. But what if we could learn to love our quirks and see ourselves for who we truly are?

In “Redefining Beautiful,” Jenna Lucado starts by telling you of what she refers to as her “weirdness” and what makes her unique. With some side notes from her dad, who you might of guest is, Max Lucado and scripture from her heavenly dad, she takes you through on how to love all of the things that make up who you are. With the spaces she leaves for you to write, and quizzes for you to take, you search your heart for the deep reason behind your insecurities and self doubt.

This book opened my eyes to the true beauty that lies inside of me, and helped me to love all of the weird things that make up who I am. I’ve seen that I am just the way I am supposed to be; intricately designed exactly how God planned. I’ve seen myself for who I truly am, beautiful.

Your gifts can take you somewhere, but you need character to keep you there.

When a person, especially a minister, is very gifted, others often flock to that person. However, he or she must have Godly character in order to remain humble, so that the ministry won’t turn sour.

If you have great gifts and you are waiting for God to promote you and wondering why He doesn’t, check your character. Examine your Fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23).

Do you walk in love with others (John 13:34-35)? Do you purposefully look for ways to bless others and reach out to people (Luke 10:30-37)?

Do you try to serve and put others first (Mark 9:35)?

Do you keep your word and do what you say you will do (Psalm 15:1-5, especially notice v. 4)?

Those are the key elements of character necessary for successful, lasting ministry.
Integrity, excellence, and faith are the only things that can keep you steady in the storms of life. If you lack those, then you lack Godly character.

If you lack character, then you may end up doing more harm than good to the name of God. Although your gifts may take you somewhere, you need character to keep you there.
